Officer's dirk to the Seaforth Highlands. With bright single-edged blade notched along the back for much of its length. Ebonised baluster grip carved with basket weave set with brass pins above crossed swords and bonnet on one side, a thistle on the other, brass mounts chased with thistles, and pommel set with a piece of faceted glass against orange foil, in original wood-lined black patent leather scabbard. Border engraved brass mounts applied with thistles. Makers name R & H. B. Kirkwood, 66-68 Thistle Street, Edinburgh on reverse of top brass mount, makers's motto on other mounts, the locket also with the figure of St. Andrew, and with foliate chape. Fullered tip. Matching knife and fork en suite. The working period for Robert & Henry Bruce Kirkwood appears to be 1872 until 1915.
